F is for… Feedback

Ask for feedback.

Some bosses and colleagues are bad at giving feedback or some might only give feedback as part of the appraisal process. However, as you are looking to maximise your first 90 days – you should be actively (but not aggressively) seeking feedback.

Feedback doesn’t have to be just from your boss. Seek feedback from clients and other colleagues that you are working with (and keep a record of it).

Ask things like:

  • How am I doing?
  • What needs done and what needs done better?
  • What do you like about my working style / how we are working together? What do you not like?
  • What can I do to help?
  • How can I make things easier for you?
  • How can I best support you?
  • What can I do differently next time that will be more helpful?
  • What could I do to improve?
  • What steps can I take to prepare for the next project?

If you are constantly seeking feedback and always looking to improve it will make it easier to self-evaluate your performance and improve and push yourself forward.

Action Point: Ask for Feedback and keep a record of it (and don’t forget to implement the feedback).

This blog post is an extract from our upcoming “First 90 Days” prompt journal which is being published later this year. You can pre-order your copy.

If you are dropping by as part of the A to Z Challenge – don’t forget to leave a comment to say hi with a link to your blog. Do you ask for feedback? What feedback do you ask for? Share in the comments.

  1. An excellent tip. Not only valuable for the information it provides, but a good way to establish and maintain open lines of communication.
