Happiness in your career is not essential, but it does make it easier and much more fun. Make finding happiness a choice. Happiness is in many ways tied to wellbeing.
To be happy in our jobs we often need positive emotions/mindset, engagement with our jobs, feel like we have a meaning/purpose in our life, have positive relationships with our colleagues and feel appreciated and valued, be health and feel health and have the work life balance we personally desire.
Here are some things that everyone can do to make themselves happier in the workplace:
- celebrate the small things and the positive experiences in life;
- be kind to others and support your colleagues;
- nurture your relationships with colleagues, your boss, your clients and other working relationships;
- look after yourself which includes your body, mind and spirit;
- clear your mind and space of clutter;
- write a journal;
- take regular breaks and have boundaries to protect your personal time;
- find techniques and practices that work for you personally and try things like gratitude, mindfulness and meditation;
- embrace positive experiences.
