J is for… Journal

We recommend that you keep a career journal throughout your first 90 days. In particular, you should record:

  • a journal of what you are doing (keep a record of your to do list and training);
  • notes on your appraisal process and any notes from your appraisal.
  • notes from your check-ins and any conversations with colleagues, mentors, and any feedback received.
  • your goals and progress on those goals.

If you don’t keep a journal – we would suggest that you might like to start today. Your Career Journal does not have to be detailed – it can be in the style of a bullet journal with a simple record of what you are working on, your activities, accomplishments, successes and challenges as they happen.

Action Point: Start your career journal if you haven’t already and if you do have one consider setting up a specific journal for intense journalling during your first 90 days.

This blog post is an extract from our upcoming “First 90 Days” prompt journal which is being published later this year. You can pre-order your copy.

If you are dropping by as part of the A to Z Challenge – don’t forget to leave a comment to say hi with a link to your blog. Do you keep a journal? Share in the comments.
