L is for… Last Year

L is for Last Year’s Review

Part of your preparation for your appraisal should include an analysis of your review of last year. Why? Because it is likely that you will have set a number of goals last year which you will have been working on this year.

However, it is unlikely that this has gone exactly to plan. You will need to identify what has changed and why.

You might have been given something new by your boss (either formally or informally). A particular project or piece of work might never have happened or was delayed? Take your time to work through your goals / objectives from last year and identify:

  • What is the current position?
  • If you have completed your goal – what was accomplished?
  • If your goal in a work in progress – what was accomplished? Is there a reason why it has not been completed?
  • If you goal has not been met – what happened?
