N is for… Network

What is Networking?

Networking is all about meeting new people and building relationships. Therefore it is very important that you do a lot of networking in your first 90 days in a new job.

Why is Networking important?

Networking in your first 90 days is important for a number of reasons. In addition to the usual business development reasons, it is also important to help you get to know people internally and build your internal network as well as to let your connections and contacts know that you have changed job/role.

Part of this should be learning the informal network internally. Who do you need to know to get things done?!

Make an effort to network on a regular basis during your first 90 days. Particularly if you are still waiting for work to flow in regularly and have a bit more time.

Action Point: Write a list of people to network and catch up with and if you don’t automatically get business cards – make sure you order some.

This blog post is an extract from our upcoming “First 90 Days” prompt journal which is being published later this year. You can pre-order your copy.

If you are dropping by as part of the A to Z Challenge – don’t forget to leave a comment to say hi with a link to your blog. What are you actively doing to build your network?Share in the comments.
