N is for… Networking

Basically, networking is meeting new people and building relationships. If you are looking for a promotion networking internally and networking to build professional and business relationships are both vitally important.

Promotions at times can be a personality and popularity contest. Therefore it can be important to network internally to get you name known and to build a reputation.

In addition to this most professionals will be required to do some business development and attract and retain clients or customers. Your employer (or prospective employer) wants to know that you are making the business money. Networking is one of the ways that this can be done.

Therefore if you want a promotion you should be developing you networking skills and recording and analysing your networking activities.
