Presentation Tips: Start with a BANG!

When presenting first impressions are important. No matter what medium you are using, you only have a matter of seconds (7-10 seconds) to make an impact. You haven’t got a couple of minutes to “warm up” or get going. Therefore it is important to connect with your audience.

Start with a proper welcome that you are confident with. For example, use “good morning” or “good afternoon” rather than “Hi”. It is too short to have any impact.

When speaking, look at your audience – don’t look down, don’t fidget – give your audience 100% of your attention.

As well as sounding and looking confident you should also use confident body language. For example, have a “home position” for your hands – use your hands when making a point to make an impact and then come back to your home position – this will stop your hands being unnecessarily distracting, while still encouraging you to use your hands to make an impact.
